VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Medical Outreach Ministries Family Health Center is staffed by a small full-time staff. All other staffing is performed by volunteers from throughout the community. Volunteers work in areas ranging from office support and patient screening to hands-on patient care. All volunteers receive training for their positions in the center.

Individuals, church groups, or other organizations interested in volunteering or in partnering with this ministry should contact the center at 334-281-8008.


NON-MEDICAL VOLUNTEERS:

Receptionist: Answer the phone, take messages from the answering machine, contact patients to remind them of their next day appointment, determine if they will be keeping their appointment, file medical records, use copier and fax machines, type, copy medical records, and use the computer to make or cancel appointments.

Screener: Fill out screening packets for potential patients to see if they are financially eligible to receive Medical Outreach Ministries’s medical services.

Greeter/Floater/Escort: Greet patients entering the building, direct patients to screening area when their name is called, help keep the lobby area straightened, visit with patients and families who are waiting, and take completed charts to the back for processing by the nurses.

Medical Area Floater: Straighten rooms between patients, runner for physicians and nurses, and any other tasks as needed.


MEDICAL VOLUNTEERS:

Licensed Medical Nursing Personnel: Can be EMT, LPN, RN, or BSN/RN Students. Check vital signs, height, weight, obtain medial history, administer injections, collect specimen/blood, assist with physical exams, and other nursing functions. Must provide a current license each year at the Clinic.

Physicians: Perform patient examinations. Must provide a current Alabama Medical License each year of practice at the Clinic.


CLERGY/COUNSELING VOLUNTEERS:

Ministers, Chaplains, Christian Counselors, Lay Counselors: Provide spiritual and emotional counseling services on-site daily. Staff can make the availability of this service known and identify patients who are in need of this service. Any volunteer may offer to listen and to pray with a patient who indicates the need.


MEDICATION ROOM:

Medication Room Volunteers: Sort prescription drugs and assemble them in labeled packages to be dispensed by a physician (does not require a pharmacy license). Medication room volunteers will receive special training to work in this area.

Patient Advocate Assistant Clerk: Fills out the proper paperwork required to order prescription drugs donated through drug companies’ indigent care programs.


MISCELLANEOUS:

Supply refreshments (cakes, cookies, etc.) for clinic employees and volunteers.

Prescription Psychiatric Medications, Prescription Anxiety Medications, or Prescription Pain Medications.
